Transportation Tomorrow

23 April 2010

During the recent World Future Energy Summit in Abu Dhabi Sam Lissner and Peter Rose extensively documented the PRT effort being installed at Masdar City as part of their project Mobility Tomorrow (masters thesis for the NYU Center for Global Affairs). The PRT is one of the videos that has to provoke people to contribute to a discussion on sustainable transportation systems.

2getthere at the Podcar Conference Ithaca

2getthere will present at the Podcar Conference in Ithaca (NY) on September 15. The topic will be the experiences in the past with the people mover applications at the Rivium business park and Schiphol Airport.

2getthere to speak at PTE

17 January 2008

On April 17th 2getthere will speak about PRT and GRT as enablers of airport expansion during the Passenger Terminal Expo being held in Amsterdam.

Personal and group rapid transit systems are innovative solutions that provide distinct advantages over traditional systems. Despite the restrictions in space (existing infrastructure) and land use (pollution and noise regulations) that airports face, PRT and GRT systems can help accommodate specific airport issues, such as rising passenger numbers, the strict safety and security requirements and reducing aircraft handling time. Accessibility is becoming a competitive factor in persuading air
travellers to select a certain airport, and airport planners no longer question the necessity and proven benefits of people movers, but have a need for affordable alternatives to heavy, traditional (rail-guided) systems.

The Passenger Terminal Expo is the biggest international airport terminal conference and exhibition in Europe. It features more speakers and more exhibitors than ever before and will bring 2getthere senior airport and airline executives, CEOs, architects, engineers, key decision makers, suppliers and buyers from all over the world.

How to move tomorrow?

3 September 2007

The city of Sophia-Antipolis is organizing the forum  'Comment se déplacer demain?' (How to move tomorrow?) from 16-22 September. The event is organized as part of the European week on mobility. The main themes of the forum will be mobility, innovation and the environment. The event is targeted at the citizens of the region, to inform them (and get information from them) about urban travel in the (near) future.

2getthere performed a (very) succesful demonstration in Antibes (part of the city of Sophia-Antipolis) several years ago as part of the CyberMove research program. The demonstration is well-remembered and 2getthere will attend the forum to discuss with local parties the potential for such a system along the harbor and at other locations in Antibes.

Podcar Conference

28 August 2007

2getthere will be present at the podcar conference in Uppsala, Sweden. On October 2nd the presentation will detail 'The experiences of early adopters: Rivium and Schiphol'; providing cities and planners insight on the issues that rose during the installation of these first electronically guided systems.

The 'Podcar City' conference (October 1-2) is organized by the Institute for Sustainable Transportation in co-operation with the Citymobil EU research-program and the Advanced Transit Association. The event is 'an initiative to summon major parties, impacted by today’s transportation issues at all levels. The aim is to have an open and creative debate on what Podcar (PRT=Personal Rapid Transport) is, what vendors claim to be possible, what the communities are looking for and what critics and supporters argue about. The main theme is how Podcars can contribute to sustainable cities and regions'.

The conference would clearly benefit from many visitors with different backgrounds (e.g. politicians, planners, developers and investors), entering into useful discussions about the advantages AND drawbacks of PRT. PRT is not the solution to every transit problem, but (in the right configuration) can be a good solution for specific applications!

2getthere an independent company

20 August 2007

2getthere has become an independent company after a recent restructering process of Frog Navigation Systems. After operating for several years as a subsidiary, 2getthere will now independently continue the development and marketing of the Automated People Mover concepts CyberCab (PRT) and ParkShuttle (GRT). The company’s management team consists of CEO Carel van Helsdingen and VP of Marketing and Sales Robbert Lohmann.

2getthere holds an exclusive license from Frog Technology B.V. to apply the patented FROG navigation technology, both software and hardware, for Automated People Mover applications, ranging from PRT to GRT applications.

2getthere will share its office with Advanced Cargo Transhipment (ACT), also recently established as a spin-out company. ACT focuses on automated container terminals, using Automated Guided Vehicles, Straddle Carriers, Stacker Cranes and other automatic equipment.

Annoucement Podcar Conference

2getthere.eu Website Launched

1 March 2007

As of today the new website 2getthere.eu is on-line. 2getthere.eu contains detailed information with regard to the CyberCab (PRT) and ParkShuttle (GRT) concepts developed and marketed by 2getthere. Furthermore the website contains information on the BRT concept Phileas.

For each of the concepts information is available on the projects realized, the (network) controls, vehicles and infrastructural requirements. If more detailed information is required this can be obtained through the information request page ('i' thumbnail on the top left of the page).

The website is realized in co-operation with DataCT (builders) and Justar (design). Technically the website facilitates easy changes of pages, pictures, text and other information. Its optimized for search engines to contribute to a high ranking in the world's major search engines.

We trust you will enjoy our new site and welcome any comments you might have.

TRB Annual Meeting Presentation

4 January 2007

During the 2007 annual meeting of the Transportation Reserach Board, 2getthere presented in the session on PRT safety (Tuesday, January 23rd).

2getthere is currently involved in the EU-reserach program CityMobil and the Dutch research program Transumo. Both programs concentrate on the development of technologies to allow automated systems to be able to share the roadways with other traffic. In the initial stages mixed traffic will only be possible in restricted environments, but long-term the objective is to mix with slow traffic (bikes and pedestrians) or on dedicated bus lanes.

The presentation of 2getthere focused on the research done with the city of Almere within the Transumo program.

Advanced Transit Association Presentation

2 January 2007

The 2007 ATRA technical meeting in Washington D.C. was organized on Saturday January 20th, preceeding the Transportation Research Board (TRB) Annual meeting.

The meeting featured various speakers on the latest developments of Advanced Transit concepts, including a presentation by 2getthere on the development history of its' Automated People Mover concepts and its' vision for the future.
