GRT Passenger Interface

At each station a passenger interface is available. The main function of the passenger interface is to request transportation when there are no vehicles available in the station as the passengers arrives. The request is simply generated by means of a (single) push-button. Passengers indicate their destination on the touch-screen available inside the vehicles. The passenger interface hardware is designed by 2getthere and able to withstand all weather conditions as well as the abuse associated with public transportation.

Directly above the button to request transportation a (2 x 40 character) LCD-display is integrated. The first text line displays messages regarding the operational status or expected waiting time, while the second line displays instructions or confirmations. Both lines can also feature a manually entered text from the operator.  The display and the push-button are located such that they are clearly visible and readable from a wheelchair as well.

An intercom provision is also integrated in the passenger interface. The intercom provides direct contact to the operator for questions or alerts. Optionally a camera can be integrated – but in case CCTV is installed in the station this is not required. An information panel is provided on eye-level. The panel can be stationary with text explaining the operations of the system, or a touch-screen. The touch-screen provides additional functionality, but is also more vulnerable to vandalism. On both sides of the passenger interface a timer is integrated, displaying the waiting time until arrival of the next vehicle.
