PRT at Institutions

Institutions located at the periphery, such as hospitals and university campuses, often feature campus (-like) environments with multiple buildings. PRT (Personal Rapid Transit) can interconnect the buildings and facilities as well as multiple decentralized parking locations; eliminating the need for ever using the car for internal transportation.

Personal Rapid Transit operates on a (loop) network of dedicated guide ways, providing direct connections between the dormitory complex(es), class rooms, laboratories and sports arena and library. The direct, non-stop connections ensure the trip time (waiting + travel time) is minimized and the passenger service is optimized.

The small foot print of the system ensures it is easily integrated in the spatial planning. The electronic guidance allows for the system to be implemented at grade, but an elevated guide way is also possible. The simple infrastructure and the small foot print ensure there is minimal visual intrusion (especially when installing the system at grade), while the capital costs are also kept relatively low.

The routing of the PRT system should also connect to parking facilities and a public transportation node – functioning as a feeder system to their passengers. By providing an internal transportation system, a car-free (campus) environment could be created.
