The supervisory control system TOMS provides a complete system overview. Through two main screens, ‘overview active TOMS’ and ‘actual system status’, the operator can monitor (and control when necessary) the operations of the PRT transportation system. Intervention will only be necessary is exception handling situations.
In the overview active TOMS, the status of the vehicles, stations, zones and crossings is displayed using the system lay-out as the background. Movement of the vehicles is depicted (nearly) real-time, with status changes indicated by colors. Passenger occupancy of the vehicles is also indicated by means of a person-icon displayed on the vehicle image. Traffic zones pre-requested by vehicles are colored light-grey, while occupied zones light up yellow. At (at grade) crossings, the status of the barriers is also indicated.
In the ‘actual system status’ window displays data regarding the entire transportation system. It provides an overview of the status of system control, vehicles, transports (requests and assignments) and reports/alarms. The operator is able to monitor the operations and intervene when deemed necessary (e.g. overriding the destination, bringing the vehicle to a controlled stop and opening the doors remotely).
When specific data regarding a single vehicle or station is required, this can be displayed from both the ‘actual system status’ and the ‘overview active TOMS’ (by right clicking on the desired object in the lay-out). From the pop-up screen generated different menus can be accessed. E.g. in case of right-clicking on a vehicle the following menus are available: properties, follow mode, vehicle control, transports (current) and transport history. Each menu can consist of multiple tabs providing further insight; the tab ‘details’ of a vehicle will show a.o. current speed, total mileage, trip recorder and the energy level.
TOMS is a sophisticated and well proven network control system, providing operators with an intuitive user interface to monitor and control the operations.
