On November 28th 2010 the Masdar City PRT application was the world’s first podcar system to open to the general public. Last week the system celebrated the completion of its third year of operation, having transported over 819,000 passengers during that time. The operations of the system were temporarily seized during that time to allow for various work on phase 1B of Masdar City. The pattern clearly shows the summer months having much reduced passengers numbers, reflecting the hot climate and students leaving for summer break. The last month of the 3 years also featured the highest passenger numbers to date. The system carried nearly 36,000 passengers in November 2013, with the peak day coming in at 1,736 people.

The passenger numbers have been increasing recently, which could also be contributed to the fact that Masdar City is now featured on the Big Bus Tour Abu Dhabi. The site is promoted as featuring one of the lowest environmental footprints in the world and state of the art technology: solar power and driverless cars.
