REVO-GT

Revo-GTOceaneering Entertainment Systems

Witness the next REVOLUTION in group transit at the IAAPA Expo (booth 1982): REVO-GT.

Introducing Revo-GT

During the IAAPA Attractions Expo, Oceaneering and 2getthere introduce REVO-GT: an out of park experience. REVO-GT is 2getthere’s GRT vehicle, a self-guided, driverless group transit vehicle, tailored to the requirements of theme parks and attractions.

The system provides a safe, flexible, low-cost, comfortable, and environmentally friendly means of transportation on a 24/7 basis – in virtually any weather conditions – with zero emissions. Its interior is climate controlled, and can maintain a comfortable environment for its passengers, even in extreme ambient conditions. Routes and destinations can be pre-programmed or passenger-selected. Bill Bunting, Director, Business Development, Entertainment Systems, Oceaneering, said: “The move into transportation for theme parks, campuses and business parks, even urban zones is a natural fit, and opens up so much opportunity to serve a broader market hungry for transportation solutions that are clean, efficient, cost-effective and, most importantly, safe and reliable. Oceaneering has been delivering those hallmarks for more than 50 years, and this is simply the next step in expanding our worldwide presence in the fields of technology adapted to solving what’s needed with what’s next.”

The REVO-GT was developed in partnership with Netherlands-based 2getthere, based on the 3rd generation GRT vehicle being introduced at Rivium (the Netherlands), Brussels Airport (Belgium) and Bluewaters Island (Dubai). “Oceaneering is very excited to be teamed with 2getthere to bring the REVO-GT group transit vehicle technology to the marketplace. We have had a long and successful relationship with 2getthere over the years, working on high-profile vehicles and systems for the themed entertainment market,” Bunting said.

Future of Buses

Future of BusesRobbert Lohmann, Chief Commercial Officer

As industry leader, 2getthere is looking forward to contribute to the conference and learn.

Future of Buses

The VDI Future of Buses conference is designed to focus on how the bus sector can adapt to changing environments in transport and urban mobility. Specifically, the transition towards e-bus fleets, connected autonomous buses and advanced bus technologies will be discussed and we will put into context how the new smart urban mobility environment is affecting the bus industry. The conference is organized in Amsterdam, with 2getthere contributing in two sessions on November 29.

A new Age of Public Transport?!

Things are moving fast in the bus sector – developments in autonomous and connected bus technologies as well as the roll out of large e-bus fleets in smart, connected cities are calling for a new generation of urban bus systems. Systems, that have to be developed, tested and operated by means of vehicle technologies and infrastructure, fundamentally changing the way the industry works. It is clear that the bus sector will need to adapt to these changes as well as to disruptions coming from new mobility and technology providers, increasing data availability and multimodal transport services.

At the VDI Future of Buses conference, you’ll have the opportunity to discuss these topics with experts from all important stakeholders in the bus sector and learn about the redefined, but still important role buses still play in a constantly changing mobility and public transport landscape

Sessions and times

On behalf of 2getthere Robbert Lohmann will contribute to a panel discussion, while Jeroen van der Ploeg will present on cooperative driving. Both sessions are on November 29, with the conference commencing on the 28th.

At 11.30 the panel discussion ‘Can the Bus Sector adopt to the new Age of (Public) Transport?’, commences. Moderated by Dr. Gerhard Nowak, (Partner/Vice President, PwC Strategy GmbH), other panelists include Dirk Weißer (Head of Research, INIT GmbH), Anders Ställberg (Project Manager Autonomous Transport Solutions, Scania) and Chris Büttner (Project Lead Autonomous Driving, ioki).

Design of 3rd generation Group Rapid Transit system revealed

Carel van Helsdingen, Chief Executive Officer 2getthere
[quote]”When starting out the design process we set out to create an iconic look for the GRT vehicle.”[/quote]
[one_half]

Sneak peek automotive

As a preview to 2getthere’s 3rd generation Group Rapid Transit vehicle, the updated design for the vehicle is released today. The design of the 3rd generation is realized in close cooperation with Zagato Milano, the renowned Italian automotive design company. This is a logical extension to the cooperation for the design of the Personal Rapid Transit vehicle operational at Masdar City (Abu Dhabi).

2getthere CEO Carel van Helsdingen: ‘When starting out the design process we set out to create an iconic look for the GRT vehicle – much like we did when designing the PRT vehicle. We wanted to break away from the appearance of a mini-bus and at the same time create that ‘family-sense’ with the PRT design.’ The latter is also considered important for those applications where both vehicle types would operate alongside each other.

public transportation

The new design satisfies the design requirements for public transportation and the request for the design to be appreciated by the public without being anonymous. It should not only look modern but also be lasting without requiring a face lift to remain contemporary. The design statement should transmit a positive and futuristic vision.

Based on this Zagato, the Italian Automotive and Design company, opted for a minimalistic design approach with simple but distinctive DLO (day light opening) for both interior and exterior.

[one_half]
It provides a feeling of lower center of gravity to the vehicle and creates a dynamic balance in the proportion between cabin area and bumper/fender area. All the glass (polycarbonate), with exception of the doors, has three-dimensional curvature giving it an unique elegance and extremely modern image. Interior is very luminous and airy thanks for this big DLO.

The height of the vehicle allows for the air-conditioning to be integrated into the roof, while leaving ample room to accommodate standing passengers comfortably. The interior configuration is flexible, featuring either 8 or 12 seats while allowing up to 8 to 12 standees. As such the capacity per vehicle is increased to 24 passengers, a number achieved regularly during peak hours at the Rivium application. Automated doors featuring a wide opening to accommodate wheelchairs can be integrated at both sides of the vehicle.

The GRT will be fully electrical, typically equipped with a LiFePO4 battery. The vehicles are completely driverless and automatically guided by 2getthere’s proven magnet based navigation system. The vehicles are capable of achieving 40 km/hr. Key safety feature is the obstacle detection system, which uses the latest technologies to ensure the safety of the passengers, vehicle and its surroundings.

Zagato

Zagato COO Ing. Giorgio Gamberini commented: ‘Zagato brings a long tradition of innovative design not only for top range sports cars but also for urban mobility. In 2008 we successfully worked on automated public transportation with 2getthere for the design of the iconic PRT vehicle for Masdar City. This collaboration has now evolved to a bigger size vehicle: the GRT. At the same we believe that the Zagato attitude towards innovations that dates 95 years (1919 – 2015) will surely continue its association with 2getthere in the future with new urban mobility solutions.’

The new GRT vehicle has been offered for applications in the Far East, Middle East and Europe, drawing excellent reviews from potential customers.

[one_half] As a result of the publicity for the system and the operations at Masdar City and Rivium, more and more people world wide are getting interested in the concept of Personal Rapid Transit. The mode is seen as a way to increase the catchment area’s of stations and function as a feeder system. PRT can also accomodate moderate up to medium passenger flows as a local circulator system at airports, universities and company estates.

[/one_half]

[one_half]

Land Network from Taiwan recognized the possibilities of PRT and has the desire to introduce the concept in Taiwan. After careful research and a visit to the Masdar application, Land Network decided on moving forward with 2getthere. As of June 1st 2011 Land Network is the authorized agent for 2getthere for Taiwan.

In addition to the PRT system, Land Network will also be marketing 2getthere’s GRT system in Taiwan.
